In a landmark win for workers, Burger King will pay almost 2,500 Chicago workers a total of nearly $500,000 for alleged violations of the city’s paid sick leave law.
A city investigation found that Tri City Foods, which operates 40 Chicago-area franchises, failed to give workers their required sick leave for over three years.
These alleged violations at a large corporate fast food chain wouldn’t have been known if workers hadn’t spoken up. As a result, these workers will begin seeing payments over the next few weeks.
Workers like Alba organizing and fighting back are why companies like @BurgerKing are held accountable when they break the law, and why they’ll be getting $458,931 in restitution.
